The physicians of the Maryland Nose and Sinus center are known nationally and internationally for their work in Rhinology (rhinology: Greek for rhinos “nose is the study of the nose).
Rhinology concerns itself with all medical and surgical diseases of the nasal passages as well as paranasal sinuses. Dr Shikani is the founder of the Maryland Nose and Sinus Center and the director of the Rhinology Fellowship at the Union Memorial Hospital (Baltimore). Since 2006, several rhinology fellows from the US and various areas of the world have come to Baltimore to spend one entire year training under Dr Shikani and specializing in the field of rhinology, and become rhinology faculty in their respective institutions.
Dr Shikani and Dr Sohn, the physicians of the Maryland Nose and Sinus Center, have published numerous articles and textbooks chapters, and contributed to several innovations in the field of rhinology and otolaryngology in general. They have has published numerous publications in peer review journals and books, and made numerous presentations in national and international meetings, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology national meetings and specialty rhinology meetings in the US and around the world. Dr Shikani has many inventions and currently holds twenty patents.
Dr. Shikani earned in 2003 the coveted “Maurice H. Cottle Award for Clinical and Basic Research in Rhinology” given once a year by the American Rhinologic Society for the most outstanding work research in rhinology. Dr Sohn is the recipient of numerous awards for his research and specializes in the area of snoring and apnea.
